Date Of Last Recorded Prophet And Miracle

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

A querist asks, “While thinking about Acts 11:1-30 and the prophets mentioned in that chapter, what is the last instance in the Bible we have of a prophet in action? I am curious about the chronological order in which it occurs in the Bible. Also, what is the date or instance of the last miracle recorded in the Bible?”

1) In my study of the Scriptures, the last active prophet recorded (by name) in the New Testament, was Agabus in Acts 21:10. Agabus here reveals to Paul (by the Holy Spirit), what was to happen to him when he arrived at Jerusalem (Acts 21:11).

This may have been the same Agabus mentioned in Acts 11:28, who was among the prophets coming from Jerusalem, and foretold the coming famine at Antioch which occurred around 45 A.D.

2) Since all revealed Scripture is miraculous in nature (2 Timothy 3:16; 1 Peter 1:11; 2 Peter 1:21), the last recorded miracle in the Bible would have to be the book of Revelation written (according to most Bible scholars) about 95-96 A.D.
