AIM: I want to answer the most commonly asked questions both for the edification of our visitors and our members.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: Romans 16:16

2. About the Text:

1) In this text, we read about churches of Christ within the Bible.

2) All the churches that Paul had worked with sent greetings to the church in Rome.

3) In so doing, they were acknowledging one another.

4) That is what I would like to do this morning, acknowledge you.

5) Particularly, I want to acknowledge you by answering some of your questions regarding the churches of Christ.

6) I will not be able to answer every question.

7) However, there are some questions asked more than others regarding churches of Christ.

8) Let’s talk about these questions today.

3. Ref. to S, T, P, O, and A.

DISCUSSION:

I.   Why does the church of Christ not use instrumental music?

1. This is perhaps the most frequently asked question.

2. It is not because we don’t like, can’t afford, or can’t play.

3. The Bible simply tells us that we must sing to worship God and nothing more.

4. Colossians 3:16

5. Ephesians 5:19

6. Doesn’t say not to?

II.  Are the churches of Christ the only ones going to heaven?

1. This is probably the biggest misunderstanding regarding what the bible teaches.

2. Many think that we are just another denomination and so think regarding this statement.

3. The phrase “church of Christ” does not refer to a denomination.

4. Matthew 16:18 Jesus said, “I will build my church.”

5. Acts 20:28 says that Jesus died for the church.

6. Ephesians 5:25 says that Jesus is the savior of the church.

7. Whose church did Jesus build?

8. For whose church did Jesus die?

9. For whose church is Jesus the savior?

10.So, yes, in this sense, the church of Christ are the only ones going to heaven.

11.The more significant and important question to ask is this, “Who is the church of Christ?”

III. Isn’t teaching that baptism is necessary for salvation teaching that your own works save you?

1. Let’s talk about the assumption in this question first–Baptism is necessary for salvation.

2. Is this something that members of the church of Christ just made up or something from the Bible?

a. Mark 16:16

b. Acts 2:38

c. Acts 22:16

d. Romans 6:1-11

e. 1 Peter 3:21

3. Now that we understand that the Bible teaches that baptism is necessary for salvation, how does this fit in with the question?

a. Our own works of righteousness do not save us.

a) Ephesians 2:4, 8, 9

b) Titus 3:5

c) Luke 17:10

b. But when we do works of obedience, that is not our own righteousness, it is God’s.

a) Hebrews 5:8-9
