Christ And His Church Are Inseparable

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

Have we ever seen a head moving around but not connected to a body? Have we ever seen a body moving around but not connected to a head? We understand that if all human bodies and heads were disconnected, neither the heads nor the bodies would continue to live.

The New Testament portrays Jesus as the head of His body, which is His church. However, there are religious folks who think only Jesus is important — that the church is unimportant. But if we have any part with Jesus, we must be a member of His church and honor Him as head of the body, the church (Colossians 1:18 – NKJV).

No preacher or teacher can effectively preach Christ who does not preach regarding His church.

If he preaches or teaches about the love of Christ, he will have to preach and teach that Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her (Ephesians 5:25 – NKJV).

If he preaches or teaches Christ as Savior, he will have to preach and teach that He is the Savior of His body, which is His church (Ephesians 5:23 – NKJV).

If he preaches or teaches about the blood of Christ, he will have to preach and teach that He purchased the church with His own blood (Acts 20:28 – NKJV).

If he preaches or teaches Christ as King, he will have to tell that He is King over His kingdom, which is the church (Colossians 1:18 – NKJV).

One cannot truly preach the Christ without preaching about His church! (cf. Acts 2:14-47 – NKJV; Acts 20:17-28 – NKJV). In fact, an individual cannot be “in Christ” and not be in His church and an individual cannot be “in Christ” until he is baptized “into Christ” (Gal. 3:26-27 – NKJV; cf. Romans 6:3-4 – NKJV). Then the Lord adds that individual to His church (Acts 2:47 – NKJV; Acts 5:14 – NKJV).

Dear reader, Christ and His church are inseparable!
