Can one be forgiven of not being baptized?

Categories: Bible Questions and Answers

Okay I know you are suppose to get baptized, but if you don’t and it is a sin but sins can be forgiven so even though it is a part of salvation it is necessary, but you can be forgiven for not being baptized right? Will God forgive you for anything no matter how great the sin?

Thanks for writing.

You can be forgiven for sin, provided that you repent of that sin. Repentance of sin means that you start doing what is right. If your sin is that you have refused baptism, then to repent of that sin means that you need to be baptized. Once you repent and are baptized, then you will be forgiven. Paul taught that repentance must be accompanied with works that are worthy of our repentance (Acts 26:20).

God will forgive, no matter how great the sin is. Paul himself said that he was an example of this in 1 Timothy 1:15, 16, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.”

If Paul could be forgiven, then you may be forgiven too, but it requires repentance on your part.

Thanks for your question.
