A Thanksgiving Hymn

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles Tags:

As we gather together with family and friends this Thanksgiving Day, the following hymn serves as a reminder to each one of us, that Almighty God is the source of all that we are and have (Acts 17:24-28; James 1:17; cf. Deuteronomy 11:13-15; Deuteronomy 28:1-14; Psalm 65:9-10; Psalm 68:7-10; Psalm 147:7-8; Acts 14:17).

Thus, let us offer thanks to our God today and every day (Psalm 75:1; Romans 14:6; Ephesians 5:19-20; Colossians 3:15-17; 1 Thessalonians 5:18; Hebrews 13:15; Revelation 11:16-17).

We Gather Together (Source 1; Source 2)

We gather together to ask the Lord’s blessing;
He chastens and hastens His will to make known;
The wicked oppressing now cease from distressing;
Sing praises to His Name; He forgets not His own.

Beside us to guide us, our God with us joining,
Ordaining, maintaining His kingdom divine;
So from the beginning the fight we were winning;
Thou, Lord, were at our side, all glory be Thine!

We all do extol Thee, Thou Leader triumphant,
And pray that Thou still our Defender will be;
Let Thy congregation escape tribulation;
Thy Name be ever praised! O Lord, make us free!
