A Parallelism

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

The Bible is full of parallelisms which lend emphasis to the point (or points) the author is making. Such a parallelism is found in Deuteronomy 32:7-14-NKJV; Matthew 23:37-NKJV.

In these two sections of Scripture, both God and Christ are emphasizing their care and concern for the children of Israel’s physical and spiritual well-being through the beautiful illustration of the eagle and the hen.

Just as the young eagle and chicks are totally dependent upon the sustenance and care their mothers provide, we too are totally dependent upon the sustenance and care of the Lord (Acts 14:14-17-NKJV; Acts 17:24-28-NKJV).

As the Lord provided for His children’s every physical and spiritual need in the wilderness wanderings (Deuteronomy 8-NKJV), the Lord will provide all of our physical and spiritual needs (as spiritual Israel – Gal. 6:14-16-NKJV; cf. Romans 2:28-29-NKJV; Romans 9:6-8-NKJV; Gal. 3:26-29-NKJV) “if” we continue to put Him and His kingdom “first” in our lives (Matthew 6:24-33-NKJV; cf. 1 Chronicles 28:9-NKJV; Romans 11:22-NKJV; 1 Corinthians 15:1-2-NKJV; Colossians 1:12-23-NKJV; 1 Timothy 4:16-NKJV; Hebrews 3:6-NKJV).

However, if we choose to be independent of Him and His will, He will allow us to experience the pitfalls and judgment of “doing our own thing” (Gal. 6:7-NKJV; cf. Matthew 23-NKJV; Romans 1:21-32-NKJV; Romans 2:1-11-NKJV). A similar result is recorded in Isaiah 1-NKJV.
