Using Our Alloted Time Wisely

It is extremely difficult to comprehend the amount of wasted from watching television. By the age of 20, the average American will have been exposed to at least 20,000 hours of television (see other stats).
For a moment, let’s calculate what could be done with even a part of those hours.
A typical college undergraduate spends approximately 5,000 hours working on a bachelor’s degree. In 10,000 hours, an individual could learn enough to become a doctor, lawyer, or an engineer.
In that amount of time, a person could learn not only to speak several languages fluently, but also could read the Bible in both the original Greek and Hebrew.
In the above length of time, an individual could have walked completely around the world and have written two books about those travels.
Brethren, we will give an account to our Creator as to “how” we used our time here on earth — either productively or non-productively (Matthew 25:14-30; John 15:1-8).
Let us use our alloted time wisely (Ephesians 5:15-16; Colossians 4:5), for night is coming, when no man can work (John 9:4 – see commentary; cf. Ecclesiastes 9:10).
