TITLE: Who is the Son of Man?

PROPOSITION: In this lesson we will ask and answer the question “Who is the Son of Man” according to the gospel of Luke chapters 1-12. We will learn that the Son of Man is 1) The one who has power to forgive sins (Luke 5:24). 2) Lord of the Sabbath (Luke 6:5). 3) The one delivered into the hands of men (Luke 9:44). 4) Not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them (Luke 9:56). 5) Hath not where to lay his head (Luke 9:58). 6) Was a sign to His generation (Luke 11:30). 7) Comes at an unexpected hour (Luke 12:40).

OBJECTIVE: The hearer should understand that Jesus was not only divine, but human and that the expression “son of man” while not unique to Jesus, emphasizes His humanity.

Aim: To reinforce in the minds of the hearer the identity of Jesus.

TITLE: Impediments to Loving Your Brother

PROPOSITION: In this lesson we will discuss things that the Bible says impedes loving our brother. We impede ourselves from loving our brother when 1) We put a stumbling block before our brother; 2) We serve self instead of our brother; 3) We bite and devour our brothers, 4) We speak falsehoods to our brothers.

OBJECTIVES: Each listener should be able to understand what kind of behavior God says impedes loving our brothers.

TITLE: Things That Unite – One Faith

PROPOSITION: How can we have unity in the one faith? 1) By being steadfast within it. 2) By not falling away from it. 3) By contending for it. 4) By being encouraged by it.

OBJECTIVES: Each one should understand the things that he may do to maintain unity in the one faith.

AIM: To give scriptural reasons how we can have unity in the one faith.

SUBJECT: Miracles

TITLE: Bible Miracles

PROPOSITION: In this lesson, we will look at the subject of Bible miracles looking at their definition, distribution, and domain.

OBJECTIVES: Each should be able to understand what a Bible miracle was and explain their distribution and circumstances.

AIM: To help all have a better understanding of the purpose of Bible miracles.

SERMON ON DISCIPLINE

INTRODUCTION: Read 2 Thessalonians 3:6

1. This passage deals with a specific problem in the Thessalonian church.

2. There were brethren who refused to work for their own living, 2 Thessalonians 3:11

3. These were called “disorderly.” They were without discipline.

4. These did not walk after the tradition received from the apostles. Therefore, they were in sin.

5. We have, in this apostolic injunction, a principle that must be learned by the people of God in every generation. If it is not learned the church withers.

6. WE MUST WITHDRAW OURSELVES FROM THE DISORDERLY.

7. Withdraw means to keep away, stand aloof (Gingrich, Shorter Lexicon).

8. This is not something to be taken lightly but with fear and trembling.

PROPOSITION: To teach the things God is trying to tell us in tragedy.

OBJECTIVE:To inform the hearer of God’s message to be found in tragedy.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Many things about this world make it a place in which tragedy can happen.

1) Human selfishness. Freedom of choice.

A. There are numerous problems that need to be corrected in the Lord’s church today, but perhaps none more than the problem of procrastination.

1. So often, the resources are available, the fields are white unto harvest, and the opportunities abound – but the laborers are few (Mat. 9:37-38)

2. WHY?

a. Is it because so many are unaware of their responsibility to serve

b. Or is it because those who are aware of their responsibility, lack the ability to serve?

c. Or could it be that the majority of folks know their responsibility, have the necessary abilities to render effective service unto God, but just never get around to using those talents?

SUBJECT: Jesus, Lord’s Supper, Worship

TITLE: Why Remember Jesus?

PROPOSITION: We ought to remember Jesus because 1) It is part of Jesus’ and the apostles’ doctrine, 2) A grateful heart will remember sacrifice, 3) God the Father wants us to remember His Son, Jesus.

Objectives: To set forth three convincing reasons as to why we should remember Jesus upon the first day of every week.

Aim: That each would be able to tell others why they ought to remember Jesus every week.

PROPOSITION: We can overcome the world because 1) God has given us the power; 2) Faith gives us the victory 3) The world shows us the alternative; 4) The results of overcoming give us the motivation.
