Sermon on Heaven — Outline explaining the Bible doctrine of Heaven, that Heaven is a place where there is no evil, where the righteous will dwell eternally, and where God and Christ are. By Kevin Cauley.

PROPOSITION: Heaven is a place where there is no evil, where the righteous will dwell eternally, and where God and Christ are.

OBJECTIVES: In this lesson, the hearer should realize the importance of being with God eternally, living a righteous life, and avoiding evil.

AIM: To motivate each member toward faithful living so as to attain unto the goal of heaven.

INTRODUCTION:

1. Read: John 14:2-3

2. About the Text:

1) Jesus was talking to his disciples concerning his departure.

2) The apostles were worried about his leaving them.

3) So, He reassures them with these words.

4) These words are also a great assurance to all who would become disciples of the Lord.

5) They are the words of ultimate comfort to the Christian to know that one day he will be with his Lord.

6) What is this place which Jesus has prepared? Heaven!

I.   No evil shall be.

1. The wicked will not be there–Matthew 13:49 “So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just.”

2. There will be no death there–Luke 20:34-36

3. There will be no sorrow there–Rev. 21:1-4

4. There will be no sin there–Rev. 21:27

5. There will be no curse there–Rev. 22:3 “And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:”

6. Why? No corrupting influences there.

1) Heavenly treasures will last eternally for there is nothing to corrupt them there–Matthew 6:20

2) No evil can be there because it is incorruptible, and undefiled–1 Peter 1:3-4

II.  The Righteous will dwell eternally in joy.

1. Righteousness dwells there–2 Peter 3:13-14

2. The righteous will go into eternal life–Matthew 25:34, 46

3. The fulness of joy is in God’s presence–Psalm 16:11

4. Those who follow Jesus are the righteous–John 10:27-28

5. Therefore we know we have eternal life if we are righteous–2 Corinthians 5:1

6. The righteous are God’s servants–Rev. 22:1-5

7. Finally, in this sermon on heaven…

III. God and Christ are There.

1. God dwells there.

1) It is his dwelling place–Psalm 11:4

2) It is his sanctuary–Psalm 102:19

3) It is a high and holy place where he can live in eternity–Isaiah 57:15

4) We acknowledge his dwelling place in prayer–Matthew 6:9 “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.”

5) Jesus is with God there–Hebrews 8:1

6) Both the Father and the Son are together in heaven–Rev. 21:22-25

2. We can be with God and Christ in Heaven.

1) We must serve and follow the Christ–John 12:26

2) We must be united in Christ–John 17:22-24

3) We shall be with him in glory–Colossians 3:4

4) We will be with him in the resurrection–1 Thessalonians 4:17

5) The faithful seek a heavenly country–Hebrews 11:14-16

6) The sons of God will be like Christ–1 John 3:2

1. Heaven is the dwelling place of the righteous.

2. We must be in fellowship with God to go there.

3. No evil can enter into heaven.

4. Let us therefore live in a way that would gain for us that entrance into eternal life.
