Benefits of Soul Winning – Article by Mike Riley

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles Tags: ,

Let’s look at some benefits of soul winning. The purpose of soul winning was the sole cause for the Word to become flesh and dwell among men (John 1:12-14); Luke 19:10). After Jesus provided the means through His atoning blood by which souls might be won and saved from sin (Ephesians 1:7), He sent His disciples out with the incomparable task of winning souls by preaching the Gospel (Matthew 10).

The winning of souls is a surpassing privilege that brings great joy each time a soul is won by the Gospel.

1) Benefits of soul winning in Heaven (Luke 15:10).

Ever since man and woman both sinned in the garden of Eden, the whole interest of Heaven has been the redemption of the human race (John 3:16-17; Romans 5; Ephesians 2; Gal. 3). God spent a period of many centuries bringing His plan of redemption to fruition (Gal. 4:4).

No wonder that the inhabitants of Heaven are thrilled when the redeemed go out seeking lost souls. As Christians, let’s ask ourselves, “How many times have we brought much joy to the angels?”

2) Benefits of soul winning to the soul who is won to the cause of Christ.

Note that after his baptism, the Ethiopian Eunuch “went on his way rejoicing” (Acts 8:39). The joy of his discovery of God’s truth (John 17:17), his consequent obedience to God’s truth (Romans 6:17), his release from the guilt of sin (Hebrews 10:14-18); his entering into a new life (Romans 6:3-4; 2 Corinthians 5:17), and his hope of eternal life (Titus 1:1-2; Titus 3:4-7), all combine to make the moment of conversion a source of incomparable rejoicing!

3) Benefits of soul winning to the soul-winner (Psalm 126:6).

Christians experience many joys in this life, but only one outshines that of becoming a Christian, and that is sowing the seed and reaping the harvest of a soul (1 Corinthians 3:5-9; 1 Corinthians 3:14).

4) Benefits of soul winning to other Christians.

When Paul and Barnabas reported the conversion of many Gentiles from their preaching efforts, “they caused great joy to all the brethren” (Acts 15:3). God’s faithful saints greatly rejoice at the news of every soul won, regardless of who helped win it, The genuine heart can never be jealous or indifferent to the success of others in winning souls.

It’s no wonder then that Solomon wrote:

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30).

The benefits of soul winning are powerful and are to be sought out by all Christians.
