Satan's Secret Is Out!

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles Tags:

The story is told of a driving instructor who was stopped by police after a minor accident with a truck. When asked for his driver’s license, he couldn’t provide one. He had been instructing students for more than 40 years on how to drive, yet he didn’t have his own license! Years earlier, he had failed a driving test, and he was fearful of trying again. He had kept this fact a secret out of embarrassment.

Satan also has a secret in his past that he doesn’t want people to learn about. His secret? He no longer has the power to separate us from God (Romans 8:35-39). Our enemy doesn’t want anyone to know this truth, because he desires to keep non-Christians controlled by sin (Romans 5:12; Romans 5:16-18; Romans 6:17a) and Christians entangled in sin (cf. 2 Peter 2:20).

Because of sin, we were separated from God (Isaiah 59:1-2; cf. Romans 6:20-21; Romans 6:23; James 1:15). But when Jesus died on the cross, He became our perfect sin-offering (2 Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 9:11-14; Hebrews 10:11-19; cf. Exodus 29:14; Leviticus 6:30; Hebrews 13:11-12; 1 John 3:4-5; Isaiah 53:5-6) and took on Himself our just punishment for the wages of our sins (cf. Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23). God then raised Jesus from the dead (Acts 2:22-24; Acts 4:10; Acts 10:40; Acts 13:30), and now He reigns in heaven (1 Corinthians 15:24-25; Ephesians 1:19-22; 1 Peter 3:22).

When we are obedient to the teachings of our Lord (Romans 6:17), a relationship with God begins (Gal. 3:26-29) and sin no longer has dominion or control over us (Romans 6:12-14). We are no longer separated from God. We are set free from the bondage of sin (Romans 6:18). Satan’s secret is no longer secret — it’s now out in the open!
