Aim: To help everyone understand that we must preach the whole counsel of God to be God’s watchman.

1. This passage deals with a specific problem in the Thessalonian church.
2. There were brethren who refused to work for their own living, 2 Thessalonians 3:11
3. These were called “disorderly.” They were without discipline.
4. These did not walk after the tradition received from the apostles. Therefore, they were in sin.
5. We have, in this apostolic injunction, a principle that must be learned by the people of God in every generation. If it is not learned the church withers.
6. WE MUST WITHDRAW OURSELVES FROM THE DISORDERLY.
7. Withdraw means to keep away, stand aloof (Gingrich, Shorter Lexicon).
8. This is not something to be taken lightly but with fear and trembling.

INTRODUCTION:
1. Sometimes people will stop at nothing to prevent the work of the Lord from being accomplished.
2. What we see unfolding in Nehemiah 6 is Sanballat and company’s conspiracy to stop Nehemiah’s efforts in doing the work of the Lord. Nehemiah 6:1-2
3. The work of Nehemiah was nearly complete, and in a last-ditch effort to stop the work – Sanballat and company resort to conspiracy.
4. Let us now consider the various acts of conspiracy that Nehemiah had to overcome in doing the work of the Lord.

A. There are numerous problems that need to be corrected in the Lord’s church today, but perhaps none more than the problem of procrastination.
1. So often, the resources are available, the fields are white unto harvest, and the opportunities abound – but the laborers are few (Mat. 9:37-38)
2. WHY?
a. Is it because so many are unaware of their responsibility to serve
b. Or is it because those who are aware of their responsibility, lack the ability to serve?
c. Or could it be that the majority of folks know their responsibility, have the necessary abilities to render effective service unto God, but just never get around to using those talents?

PROPOSITION: We ought to remember Jesus because 1) It is part of Jesus’ and the apostles’ doctrine, 2) A grateful heart will remember sacrifice, 3) God the Father wants us to remember His Son, Jesus.

Aim: That each would be able to tell others why they ought to remember Jesus every week.

PROPOSITION: We can overcome the world because 1) God has given us the power; 2) Faith gives us the victory 3) The world shows us the alternative; 4) The results of overcoming give us the motivation.
OBJECTIVES: In this lesson, the hearer should 1) recognize that God’s power is through his word 2) understand the necessity of baptism for salvation 3) realize the power of faith in Christ 4) shun the desire to be like the world 5) and desire to obtain the blessings that occur as a result of overcoming the world.
AIM: With this lesson I hope to encourage the brethren to faithful living by showing them that they can overcome the world; that the rewards of doing so are great; and that the failure to do so is perilous.
