On Using Our God-Given Talents
Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin ArticlesThe neck muscles that are supposed to hold our head upright sometimes become lazy, not doing their job. As a result, our shoulder muscles have to take over the function of holding up our head, causing unnaturally stiffened shoulder muscles.
Thankfully, there are exercises available that will build up our neck muscles (see video) to do what they were designed to do.
Similarly, the above problem happens spiritually speaking in the Lord’s church. God has given each member talents that are to be exercised for the common good of the church (Matthew 25:14-30; Ephesians 4:15-16; Colossians 2:19).
However, when some members don’t pull their weight, others far less gifted in those areas must pitch in. Although the body of Christ continues to function, it is not functioning at its optimum level. There are some overworked Christians because of a lack of responsibility on the part of some in the church to develop and use their God-given talents.
God wants us to use the talents He has provided us to benefit others in the church. Whenever we work together as a unit, we keep His body strong (1 Corinthians 16:13; Ephesians 3:16; Ephesians 6:10-11; Colossians 1:9-11; 2 Timothy 2:1-2).
