Life Is All A Matter Of Perspective

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

Over the years, this writer has observed that there are folks who have an eternal perspective of life, and then there are folks who are preoccupied with the present. One individual is absorbed with the permanent, while another individual is absorbed with the temporary. One stores up treasure in heaven (Matthew 6:20), while the other accumulates treasure here on earth (1 Kings 10:21-23; cf. Ecclesiastes 2:1-11).

One stays with a challenging marriage because this life isn’t all there is (1 Timothy 6:12,19). Another individual divorces and looks for happiness in another mate, believing this life is all there is. One is willing to suffer poverty, hunger, indignity, and shame because of “the glory which shall be revealed in us” (Romans 8:18), while another believes that happiness is being rich and famous.

Brethren and friends, life is all a matter of perspective.

Moses had an “other world” perspective. That’s what enabled him to “choose” to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin” (Hebrews 11:25). He knew that God had something “better” for him later on (Hebrews 11:13-16).

That’s a perspective that many folks just can’t understand. They want to go for all the “gusto” right now in this present existence (Luke 12:19). But God’s people have a “different“ perspective. Like Moses, we know that God has something far “better” for us later on.

Let’s think about it!
