Let's Drive Some Traffic #2

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles

By far, search engines send me more traffic than anything else. More than links, more than social media, more than anything.  So, I’m going to give you an example of how I created one page that I believed would get me traffic from search engines.

Do a Google search on “How To Repent” without the quotes. You’ll see that I have a page listed at #3 in the Google results. Since Feb. 20, 2009 when the page was first recognized by the search engines they have sent visitors over 1000 times simply because I recognized that “How To Repent” might be a good phrase to write a sermon outline on.

Go to the Google Keyword Tool and do a search on “repent” without the quotes. Notice phrases such as “define repent” and “repent or perish” and many others which could be worked into the title of an outline or article. The good thing about these phrases are that they are actually used by real people looking for information.

How to write an article that the search engines will list.

I’m not going to give you a complicated guide to search engine optimization. I’m simply going to recommend that you put the phrase in the title and in the body of the text two or three times, as long as it reads well. This will suffice for most fairly low volume phrases. If you don’t get immediate results, move on to the next phrase. That article may impress the search engines in the future when you have more links to your site.

In the last month I have received 25,366 total visits from search engines using 13,595 keyphrases. This is certainly an area that you can use to improve traffic to your sites and blogs.
