DISCUSSION: That Jesus is Lord means that Jesus is the one…

I.   Who Controls All Things

1. This was done after Christ was raised from the dead. Ephesians 1:20-23 speaking about God’s power says “Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”

2. And there is no one who is not under his present control. Colossians 1:16-19 – “For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;”

3. To Him all must bow and every tongue confess His Lordship. Philippians 2:9-11 “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

4. Everything belongs to Jesus; He is the Lord!

5. This means that He has the sovereign right to command our actions.

II.  Who was Crowned with All Glory and Honor

1. God the Father was the one who crowned Him with such.

1) Hebrews 2:7-9 “Thou madest him a little lower than the angels; Thou crownedst him with glory and honor, And didst set him over the works of thy hands: But we behold him who hath been made a little lower than the angels, even Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that by the grace of God he should taste of death for every man.”

2) 2 Peter 1:16-18 “For we did not follow cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received from God the Father honor and glory, when there was borne such a voice to him by the Majestic Glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased: and this voice we ourselves heard borne out of heaven, when we were with him in the holy mount.”

2. It is His right to have this forever.

1) 1 Timothy 1:17 “Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

2) Revelation 5:11-14 “And I saw, and I heard a voice of many angels round about the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; saying with a great voice, Worthy is the Lamb that hath been slain to receive the power, and riches, and wisdom, and might and honor, and glory, and blessing. And every created thing which is in the heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and on the sea, and all things are in them, heard I saying, Unto him that sitteth on the throne, and unto the Lamb, be the blessing, and the honor, and the glory, and the dominion, for ever and ever. And the four living creatures said, Amen. And the elders fell down and worshipped.”

3. All glory and honor belongs to Jesus; He is the Lord.

4. This means that our lives must seek to honor and glorify Him.

III. Who Commands My Allegiance

1. He not only has right to command, but to expect obedience.

1) Hebrews 5:9 “And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.”

2) Matthew 28:18-20 “And Jesus came to them and spake unto them, saying, All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

2. He is our only master.

1) He is our Lord and Master. “Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.” (John 13:13).

2) He is our ONE Master. “Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.” (Matthew 23:10).

3) He is our ONLY Lord and Master (Jude 1:4). This means no other has right to compete with Him.

3. Jesus is our one and only master; Jesus is Lord.

4. This means that we must seek to please and obey Him in our lives.

CONCLUSION:

1. Do we act like Jesus is our Lord?

1) One day He will be our judge as well (John 12:48).

2) Let us live each day as we KNOW Jesus to be our Lord.

2. Jesus is Lord means that He is the one who…

1) Controls All Things

2) Was Crowned with Glory and Honor

3) Commands my Allegiance

3. Invitation
