How could Jesus be God and the Son of God?

Categories: Bible Questions and Answers Tags: , ,

We were in a discussion last evening about Jesus being God. I told my husband that Jesus and God were the same person. That Jesus was the three in one…….God, Son and Holy Spirit. He told me that Jesus was God’s son (which I know) and how could he be three in one.
I told him that Jesus was God in the flesh here on earth. How could Jesus be both God and the Son of God?

You’ve really stumbled across one of the biggest mysteries in the history of Theology. That is, how can Jesus be God and at the same time be different from the Father and the Holy Spirit. They are all ONE God, but there are three persons (personalities) in the Godhead. There are scriptures where you can find the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit mentioned distinctly, such is in Matthew 28:19. There are also scriptures that say there is but ONE God (Mark 12:29). Both are true.

The best way to explain it is to think of God in terms of a triangle. Each triangle has three sides and corners, but it is one figure.

Colossians 2:9 teaches us that Jesus is the fullness of the Godhead in bodily form.

I hope that this answers your question.
