Brotherly Love

Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently” (1 Peter 1:22 KJV).

We were redeemed for the express purpose of being made like God (1 Peter 1:18-21). In the Garden, Satan tempted Eve to be like God. “For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be gods, knowing good and evil” (Genesis 3:5 KJV). Eve yielded to the temptation and thereby sinned. That evil and circumventive sermon has been repeatedly preached ever since …. and man is still buying into it!

Yes, God wants man to be like Him. 2 Peter 1:4 says that Christians will become partakers of the divine nature. He just doesn’t want us to take a shortcut to do it. Temptation is basically a shortcut. God has a plan where we can correctly become more and more like Him.

So, how can we be more like God? The answer is found in brotherly love! When we love like He loves, we are made like Him. When we treat others like He treats others, we are made like Him. When we forgive and forbear like He forgives and forbears, we are made like Him.

Again, we were redeemed for the express purpose of being made like God. Let’s all resolve to be like God according to His prescribed plan.

Remember, no shortcuts!
