Blessed Assurance Sermon | Our Confidence in Salvation

Blessed Assurance Sermon — One of the greatest things that the child of God enjoys is confidence. It can help him endure the turmoils of this life.

Introduction:

A. “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.”

1. One of the greatest things that the faithful child of God enjoys is blessed assurance.

2. A faithful child of God can have a confidence that will help him endure the turmoils of this life

3. Isn’t it reassuring to know that if you were to die tonight that you would be safe in the arms of Jesus? BUT: …

a. There are many though who do not have this assurance?

b. There are some who do not have confidence…

B. The Bible teaches that we can have security of the soul, a true inner peace and a blessed assurance.

1. 2 Timothy 1:7 … no fear because of assurance

2. 2 Timothy 1:12 … we have an assurance of salvation

3. Romans 8:38-39 … again, we have blessed assurance of salvation

4. Hebrews 6:11 … assurance of hope

5. Romans 8:28 …

C. Let us now at some ways we can have this blessed assurance.

Discussion:

A. ASSOCIATED WITH THIS BLESSED ASSURANCE IS KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH

1. Colossians 2:1-2

a. Assurance comes from understanding

b. Understanding comes from study

2. 1 Thessalonians 1:5 … the gospel came in assurance and it brings assurance

3. Hebrews 10:22

a. We draw close to God when we have assurance of faith

b. And, remember … Roman 10:17

4. Thus if we want to be people who have blessed assurance, we must be people of the book

a. 2 Timothy 2:15

b. 1 Timothy 4:13

B. THE BIBLE TEACHES WE CAN HAVE BLESSED ASSURANCE, HAVE CONFIDENCE:

1. Because of the cross

a. Ephesians 2:13 …

b. Ephesians 1:7 …

c. John 3:16 …

2. Because we are in Christ

a. Notice the blessings that are found in Christ:

1) 2 Corinthians 2:14 … We are triumphant in Christ

2) 2 Corinthians 5:17 … We are a new creature in Christ

3) All spiritual blessing are in Christ (Ephesians 1:3)

4) Forgiveness of sins are found in Christ (Ephesians 1:7)

5) We receive an inheritance in Christ (Ephesians 1:11)

b. This is why being in Christ brings assurance

c. How to we get into Christ that we have this blessed assurance?

1) Galatians 3:27

2) Romans 6:3-4

3. Because we have an avenue of forgiveness

a. God knew that after we were baptized, we would sin.

1) Romans 3:23

2) Not a soul can say “I am sinless,” or “I am perfect.”

b. 1 John 1:7-10

1) God does not expect us to be a perfect people, but He expects us to be a confessing people.

2) If we use this avenue of forgiveness, then we have the assurance that we remain righteous before God

4. Because we have the Bible which directs us to heaven

a. God loved us so much that He not only sent His Son that we might be saved, but He also sent us His words to direct us to heaven.

b. God’s word give us blessed assurance because:

1) They are quick and powerful …

a) Hebrews 4:12

b) Romans 1:16

2) They give light and understanding … “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple” (Psalm 119:130)

3) We cleaned and purified by it

a) John 15:3

b) 1 Peter 1:22

4) It will save us …

a) Acts 11:14

b) Call the “word of salvation” in Acts 13:26

5) It will not pass away

a) Matthew 24:35

b) 1 Peter 1:24-25

5. Because we have the promise of God

a. Not tempted above what we can withstand …

1) 1 Corinthians 10:12

b. We will be provided with what we need

1) Matthew 6:33

2) Psalm 37:25

c. Salvation

1) Hebrews 5:8-9

2) Mark 16:16

3) Revelation 2:10

C. TO ENJOY TRUE BLESSED ASSURANCE WE MUST

1. Be obedient … 1 John 3:18-24

2. Be steadfast … 1 Corinthians 15:58

3. Be watchful and brave … 1 Corinthians 16:13

4. Strong faith … Hebrews 10:22

Conclusion:

A. Do you have this blessed assurance?

B. No greater joy can come to a person than having this blessed assurance.

C. This blessed assurance:

1. Is proclaimed in the Bible

2. Is ours to enjoy

a. If we are a Christian

b. If we remain faithful

D. Invitation
