Bearing “The Reproach Of Christ”

Categories: Church of Christ Bulletin Articles, uncategorized

According to the writer of Hebrews, Moses looked ahead and made a choice based on future consequences: “By faith Moses, when he became of age ….. [chose] rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward” (Hebrews 11:24-26).

Moses’ choice certainly wasn’t an easy one, but through the eye of faith (Hebrews 11:24,27,28), he knew that any future tribulations or persecutions he would face for godly living, would be made bearable by his coming reward (cf. 2 Timothy 2:1-13).

As we look forward to the future events of our life, are we willing to bear “the reproach of Christ” — those tough times that will surely come about by being associated with Jesus (2 Timothy 3:12; cf. Psalm 34:19) — in exchange for the promised reward of pleasing God? (1 Peter 1:1-9; cf. 2 Timothy 4:6-8).

Let’s think about it!
